Here am I, send me

Throughout my years in the ministry and service to God, I have been asked more times than I can count,

"How do I know what God wants me to do" -  Well here is my response today which  is the same as it was all the times before.

When God Reveals a Need, He Is Often Calling You to Fill It

Throughout Scripture, God has consistently called His people to action when He revealed a need before them. Many believers wait for a dramatic sign from heaven, a voice from the clouds, a letter in the mail, or some unmistakable supernatural event before responding. Yet the reality is that God often works in much simpler ways.

God does not send emails, text messages, telegrams, or make phone calls. More often than not, He places a need directly in front of us and allows us to see where our talents, abilities, resources, and experience can make a difference. At that moment, the question becomes: Will we answer His call?

God Uses People to Accomplish His Work

When God desires to accomplish something on earth, He frequently works through willing servants.

Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."

Isaiah did not wait for a detailed explanation of every step. When he recognized God's call, he responded immediately with a willing heart.

Likewise, when God allows us to see a need in the church, in our community, or in the lives of others, He may be asking, "Whom shall I send?" Our response should be, "Here am I; send me."

God Gives Every Believer Gifts and Talents

The Lord equips His people with unique abilities for the benefit of others.

1 Peter 4:10 (KJV)

"As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

Our talents are not given merely for personal gain or recognition. They are entrusted to us so that we may serve others and glorify God. Whether our gift is teaching, administration, music, craftsmanship, encouragement, hospitality, leadership, or service, God expects us to use it.

When we see a need that aligns with our God-given abilities, we should recognize that this may be God's invitation to serve.

Knowing to Do Good and Refusing Is Sin

The Bible teaches that knowledge brings responsibility.

James 4:17 (KJV)

"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

When God reveals a need and provides the means for us to help, ignoring that opportunity is not simply a missed chance—it can become disobedience.

Many people pray for God to show them His will while simultaneously walking away from opportunities He has already placed before them.

The Good Samaritan Saw a Need and Responded

One of the greatest examples of answering God's call is found in the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Luke 10:33-34 (KJV)

"But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds..."

The priest and the Levite both saw the wounded man and continued on their way. The Samaritan also saw the need, but he chose to act.

The difference was not what they saw; the difference was how they responded.

God often places needs before our eyes to test our willingness to serve.

Faith Requires Action

Many people claim to have faith, but biblical faith always produces action.

James 2:17 (KJV)

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."

Seeing a need and refusing to help when we have the ability to do so demonstrates inactive faith. Genuine faith motivates believers to become participants in God's work rather than mere observers.

We Are Created for Good Works

God has already prepared opportunities for us to serve.

Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

The opportunities we encounter are often not accidents. God may have orchestrated circumstances specifically so that we would step forward and fulfill a purpose He prepared long ago.

Bear One Another's Burdens

The Christian life was never intended to be lived in isolation.

Galatians 6:2 (KJV)

"Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ."

When God reveals someone's burden to us, He may be inviting us to help carry it. This could involve giving our time, sharing our knowledge, offering encouragement, providing resources, or using our skills to meet a practical need.

The Example of Moses

When God called Moses, Moses focused on his limitations.

Exodus 4:10 (KJV)

"And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent..."

Like Moses, many believers hesitate because they feel unqualified. Yet God already knew Moses' weaknesses before He called him.

God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for willing people.

Be Doers of the Word

James 1:22 (KJV)

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."

It is not enough to recognize a need, agree that something should be done, or hope that someone else will step forward. God often expects the person who sees the need to become part of the solution.

Conclusion

God's call is not always accompanied by thunder, lightning, or an audible voice. He often speaks through opportunities, circumstances, and needs that He places directly before us.

When you see a ministry that needs help, a task that needs to be completed, a person who needs encouragement, or a problem that your talents can solve, do not immediately assume that someone else will handle it. Consider that God may have shown it to you because He wants you to respond.

The next time you encounter a need that matches the abilities God has given you, remember the words of Isaiah:

Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

"Then said I, Here am I; send me."

May every believer develop a heart that says, "Lord, if You have shown me the need, and You have given me the ability to help, then I am willing to answer Your call."
